super racist people are mean and hurt my feelings. dang it.
I agree with Christopher; my experiences with racism have sucked and been perplexing, but I do think the nature of that ugly beast is its impersonal quality. Which is both a comfort and not; easier to blow off if isn't about US per se, but still lousy and violent and demoralizing to feel objectified. To be reduced to some representation, and a false one at that.
You are a shining light to anyone who truly sees you. And anyone who misses this is blind. The loss is theirs.
Racist people hurt my feelings too, but rarely is it personal so it doesn't hit as hard. Keep your chin up ;-)
